Saskatchewan Power Corporation (SaskPower) was established as the Saskatchewan Power Commission in 1929 to provide safe, reliable, cost-effective power to Saskatchewan residents. In 1949 the Commission became a Crown corporation called Saskatchewan Power Corporation; the government also passed the Rural Electrification Act, an important piece of legislation that set the stage for electrical service to all farms in the province. Today SaskPower is the principal supplier of electricity in Saskatchewan. It generates, purchases, transmits, distributes, and sells electricity and related products and services to more than 436,000 residential, farm, industrial, and commercial customers.
