De Pauw, Ronald (1944-)

Internationally recognized for his contributions to agriculture research, Dr. Ronald De Pauw of Kamsack was born on February 21, 1944. He earned his doctorate in plant genetics and pathology from the University of Manitoba. Working as a plant breeder and research scientist for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, DePauw helped develop varieties of wheat and other cereal crops that established new standards of grain yield, protein content, and resistance to disease. He played a leading role in the introduction of Canadian Prairie Spring, a new class of Wheat that has expanded the market for western Canadian farmers. In 1991, Ronald DePauw received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. He was made a Fellow of the Agricultural Institute of Canada in 1994 and a Member of the Order of Canada in 2004.
