Air Ronge

Northern village, pop 955, located on the W shore of LAC LA RONGE, on Hwy 2, across the mouth of the Montreal River from the town of La Ronge. The village is nestled between the reserve lands of the Lac la Ronge Indian Band, and the combined population of these communities is approximately 6,000. Air Ronge, as the name indicates, was for many years the location of one of the major airstrips serving northern Saskatchewan. With increasing air traffic into the area, however, a major airport was built north of La Ronge, and today much of the area of Air Ronge’s old airstrip has been converted into a residential subdivision. The growing and harvesting of WILD RICE provides some seasonal employment. Tourism is also increasingly important to the economy, the primary attractions being fishing, hunting, camping, Canoeing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and the scenery.
