Town, pop 3,481, located 15 minutes N of Saskatoon. Like nearby Martensville, Dalmeny and Osler, Warman has in the past 30 years developed essentially into a “bedroom community” for people working in Saskatoon. The townsite of Warman grew up at the junction of the east-west running Canadian Northern Railway and the north-south running QLLS railway. It was named after Cy Warman, an American journalist who followed and reported on the construction of the Canadian Northern. Warman remained a small community until the 1950s. Since then, the burgeoning population has led to the development of a large range of local businesses, services and recreational facilities: there is a local RCMP detachment, a fire department, an ambulance service, a medical clinic, and a special care home. Warman’s elementary and high schools provide K–12 education to close to 900 students. The major annual event in the community is the Warman Diamond Rodeo and Family Days.
