Born on March 10, 1920, journalist Edmund Sebestyen has promoted the city of Saskatoon to its residents and the rest of the world. From 1948 to 1991, he worked as a journalist with the Saskatoon newspaper in various positions from editorial cartoonist to executive vice-president. Sebestyen was vice-president of the 1971 Canada Winter Games and assisted with the construction of Mount Blackstrap as the ski venue. Mr. Sebestyen is also involved with organizations such as Tree Canada Foundation and the International Newspaper Marketing Association, of which he was president. He was named Saskatoon's CFQC-TV “Citizen of the Year” in 1986 and was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada in 1994.
