Born on November 22, 1925, “Johnny” Sandison was a television and radio broadcaster and community volunteer. After serving in the Royal Canadian Navy beginning in 1943, Sandison remained with the naval reserves until retiring in 1985. His broadcast career began in 1953 with CKRM, and in 1958 he joined CKCK radio and subsequently CKCK-TV, where he remained for thirty-four years, retiring in 1996. Sandison volunteered his time with organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association, the Hospitals of Regina Foundation, and the Canadian Diabetes Association. He was awarded the St. John Ambulance Officer Grade Medal, a long service medal from the Corps of Commissionaires, and was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada in 1997. Sandison died on August 17, 2004.
