Born in St. Walburg in 1933, Father Lucien Larre was stricken by polio at the age of 5 and overcame great obstacles to help himself and others. In 1958, he was ordained into the priesthood. Having earned five degrees from the Universities of Ottawa and Alberta, Father Larre taught in Medicine Hat, Red Deer, and Regina. His experience in helping people with serious emotional problems led to the establishment of Bosco Homes in 1971. Larre also founded the Big Valley Jamboree in Craven, an annual country music festival with all proceeds going towards Bosco Homes. Father Larre was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1983.
