Born in St. Julien, Saskatchewan in 1920, Michael Kindrachuk made significant contributions to education, particularly in its multicultural facets. He earned his BA, BEd, and MEd from the University of Saskatchewan and received his PhD from the Ukrainian Free University in Munich, Germany. In 1949, he joined the Saskatoon Public Schools and served as vice-principal, principal, director of guidance and special education, and area superintendent of elementary schools. Active in the Kinsmen and Rotary Clubs and the Saskatoon Multicultural Council, Kindrachuk’s many honours and awards include the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee medal and membership in the Order of Canada. He died on May 20, 1991.
