The Conservative Party, a right-wing federal political party, was formed on December 8, 2003, with the merger of the Canadian Alliance and the Progressive Conservatives. The merger represented the uniting of the major factions of Canadian conservatism. In the 2004 election, the party, led by former Canadian Alliance leader Stephen Harper, improved on the results of both parties, electing 99 members of Parliament. In Saskatchewan they captured 13 of the province's 14 seats.
