Brent Butt was born on August 3, 1966, in Tisdale. He decided to be a stand-up comic at the age of 12 after watching the Al Hamel television show. When he was 20, he moved to Saskatoon to pursue a career in humour, and eventually was offered a tour on the road. After a year he was headlining in Toronto, and after four years he participated in an international comedy festival, Montreal’s Just For Laughs. He received several Gemini Nominations, and at the 2001 Canadian Comedy Awards was named Best Male Stand-Up in Canada. In 2004, he won two Canadian Comedy Awards and was nominated for an International Emmy Award. Brent Butt is the creator, star, and executive producer of the comedy series Corner Gas; he has appeared in numerous Canadian television programs, and in several American shows such as X-Files and Millennium. Brent lives in Vancouver; between seasons of Corner Gas, he tours across the country.
