Born in Austria on May 29, 1922, and educated in the United States, Dr. Elisabeth Brandt specialized as a speech language pathologist with an expertise in communications disorders. Along with her husband, Brandt moved to Regina in 1968. She is best remembered for her role in developing SCEP Centre, a non- government organization that offered unconventional speech-language therapy for difficult children. Students in medicine, social work, nursing, psychology and education that received training at the centre also benefited from Brandt’s influence. In 1981, she was named YWCA Woman of the Year and in 1994 was given a Woman of Distinction Award from the Saskatchewan Branch of Soroptimist International. Dr. Brandt received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 1995. She died in 1999.
