Big Sky Farms Inc., was established in 1995, by four Saskatchewan businessmen who together have more than sixty years experience in the hog industry. The company's mandate is to own and operate fully modern, farrow-to-finish hog production facilities in Saskatchewan using the most advanced production methods available. In response to soaring global consumption of pork (an increase of 15 million tonnes between 1993 and 1999), Big Sky Farms expanded rapidly and set an aggressive goal of producing two million hogs per year by 2008. It owns and operates production units in the Humboldt, Goodeve, Kelvington, Lintlaw, Preeceville, Sturgis, Ogema, Rama and Porcupine Plain areas, and is one of the largest producers in western Canada. The company employs 385 people and reports annual sales of almost $90 million.
