Recognized for his contributions to Canadian agriculture, Christian Sutter was born in Redvers, Saskatchewan on December 1, 1919. After serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Sutter returned to farming where he helped develop the Hereford breed of cattle. Later, as president of the Hereford Cattle Association, he played an important role in promoting beef exports to the Japanese market. Sutter was also involved in the creation of the Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, and served as its first president from 1971 to 1974. He received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 1986 and the Order of Canada in 1990.
