Price, George Lawrence (1892-1918)

Private George Lawrence Price was the last soldier killed in battle during World War I. Born on December 15, 1892, in Kings County, Nova Scotia, Price moved to Moose Jaw as a young man. In October 1917, he enlisted in the 210th Infantry Battalion (Frontiersmen), Canadian Expeditionary Force, and completed his basic training with the 1st Saskatchewan Depot battalion in December. Price was subsequently transferred to the 15th Canadian Reserve Battalion in England on February 6, 1918. He joined the 28th Canadian Infantry Battalion, a Saskatchewan-based unit, on May 1. Price died at Mons, Belgium about two minutes before the signing of the Armistice on November 11. Originally buried in the Havre Old Communal Cemetery, his final resting place is the St. Symphorien Military Cemetery near Mons.
