Born in River Hebert, Nova Scotia, on July 14, 1893, E.C. Leslie contributed to the profession of Law and post-secondary education in his adopted province of Saskatchewan. He served with the 85th Battalion, Nova Scotia Highlanders during World War I and was commissioned as an officer in the field. Following his return from Europe, he earned a BA from Acadia University and an LLB from the University of Saskatchewan. In addition to carrying on a general law practice, he served as a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Saskatchewan and was installed as the first Chancellor of the University of Regina in October 1974. Awarded honorary degrees from Acadia and Queen’s Universities and the University of Saskatchewan, Leslie was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1969. He passed away on December 7, 1978.
