Seifert, Lillian (1911–98)

Born in Montreal in 1911, Blanche Lillian Seifert moved to Saskatchewan in 1924. While her husband operated a grain elevator, Seifert began a career that focused on caring for people who suffered from illness or misfortune. Throughout rural Saskatchewan she responded to various medical emergencies, delivered many babies, and offered her assistance to doctors. Seifert’s work also involved visiting senior citizens, consoling the bereaved, and comforting the terminally ill. She retired to Maple Creek in 1973 and despite personal illness, Lillian Seifert continued to show exemplary leadership in volunteering. She was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 1987 for her selfless community work. Seifert died in 1998.
