Campbell, Constantine (1934–)

A respected authority on soil science, Constantine Campbell was born in Jamaica on January 18, 1934, moved to Canada in 1955, and studied at the Ontario Agricultural College. Having obtained degrees in agricultural chemistry and soil science, Campbell earned his PhD from the University of Saskatchewan in 1965. He headed the soils and environment section and was program leader for the soil management and conservation program at Agriculture Canada Research Centre in Swift Current. His main interest was soil research relating to dry-land farming and his findings have increased the productivity and sustainability of farming on the Canadian prairies. A Fellow of the Agricultural Institute of Canada and the American Society of Agronomy, Dr. Campbell was made a Member of the Order of Canada and received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 1998.
