Williamson, Robert G. (1931-)

Born in Oxley, England on November 2, 1931, Robert Williamson is recognized for his work promoting social justice and economic development with circumpolar and Arctic nations. He received his degree in anthropology from Carleton University and his doctorate from the Royal University of Uppsala in Sweden. His career began at the University of Saskatchewan, where he helped pioneer the Institute of Northern Studies and the Arctic Research and Training Centre. Williamson is credited with founding the Eskimology Section at the Department of Northern Affairs, and , an Inuit magazine. He has received numerous awards and honours including the Order of Canada in 1986.
