Diane Jones Konihowski established herself as an outstanding pentathlete in the 1970s. Born in Vancouver on March 7, 1951, she spent the formative period of her life in Saskatoon. In 1967, Jones Konihowski competed internationally for Canada for the first time, and she quickly built an impressive record in world-class competition. She represented Canada at the 1972 Munich Olympics and was a gold medalist in the pentathlon at the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City. Although she placed sixth in the event at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, Jones Konihowski won a gold medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, and her second Pan American Games gold medal in 1979. She was a member of the Canadian Olympic team in 1980, but did not compete in the Moscow Olympiad as a result of Canada's decision to boycott the games. Jones Konihowski remains closely associated with amateur athletics in Canada. She has worked as a coach and sports administrator as well as a volunteer director for several national athletic boards. She received the Order of Canada in 1979, and is a member of the Canadian Olympic and Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. Daria Coneghan and Holden Stoffel
