The first Saskatchewan flag, created in 1964 for the province's diamond jubilee in 1965 and the Canadian centennial in 1967, and designed by Sister Imelda of St. Angela's Convent in Prelate, was divided into two equal horizontal bands of red and green, and displayed a stem of wheat and the province's shield of arms. A design by Anthony Drake of Hodgeville was selected by a legislative committee and proclaimed the official provincial flag on September 23, 1969. Divided into two equal horizontal bands of green and yellow, it featured the western red lily and the shield of arms.
