Despite losing his right leg in a farm accident at age 3, Arnold Boldt excelled as a disabled high jumper and athlete. Born in Osler, Saskatchewan on September 16, 1957, Boldt became interested in track and field at elementary school and was told by his prosthetist about athletics for amputees. He competed at the 1976 Toronto Paralympiad, where he won two gold medals and set world records in high jump and long jump. He also won a gold medal in volleyball and a bronze in the 100-metre breaststroke. Boldt was a gold medalist in the jumping events at the 1977 and 1978 Canadian Games for the Physically Disabled. At the Olympiad for the Disabled in July 1980, he broke his world record in high jump with a mark of 1.96 metres; he also won a gold medal in the long jump. He capped off his career with a gold medal in the high jump at the 1992 Barcelona Paralympic Games. Boldt's best jump stands at 2.08 metres. He was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1977 and the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1980.
