Bell, Carol Gay

Regina native Carol Gay Bell has dedicated most of her life to the performing arts, communications, and broadcasting. A graduate of the University of Manitoba and Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Bell was educated in radio and television arts and began her journalism career in Saskatchewan. She was the first female staff announcer for CBC radio and television, the first female producer of musical variety on CBC television, and the first female jazz disc jockey in Canada. Bell established the Saskatchewan Roughriders cheerleading team and directed the squad for seventeen years. In 1980, she formed Saskatchewan Express, a nationally-recognized touring musical review, and served as the group’s first general manager and artistic director. Bell received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 1997.
