An enthusiastic educator, Mildred Baldwin was born in North Dakota in 1908 and later made Yorkton the centre of her life’s work. Beginning in 1933, she taught numerous grades and was principal of Fairview School. Outside the classroom, Baldwin was involved in the Girl Guides organization, the University Women’s Club, and Westview United Church, serving as Clerk of Session. Although Baldwin ended her thirty-five-year teaching career in 1969, she volunteered in Zambia for a year-and-a-half, teaching English to Zambian women. She also developed a tutoring project in Yorkton. In 1985, Mildred Baldwin received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and was chosen as Yorkton’s citizen of the year.
