Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

Royal Canadian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers
Gerry Carline

On May 15, 1944, engineering units of the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, and Royal Canadian Engineers were organized into the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). Due to the growing complexity and power of guns, radios, radar, and vehicles, forming a separate engineering corps made the best use of technical skills in support of army equipment. Disbanded in 1968, the RCEME was reorganized in 1984 and is now known as the Electrical Mechanical Engineers. The Forward Logistics Group of 16 (Regina) Service Battalion was re-designated 16 (Saskatchewan) Service Battalion in 1987.
