Concerned by the prominence of drug culture in Canadian society, Eloise Opheim co-founded the Parents Resource Institute for Drug Education or PRIDE Canada. She also helped establish the Saskatoon branch of PRIDE. The organization's purpose is to educate parents about alcohol and drug abuse and to prevent children from becoming addicts. PRIDE also assists parents of addicted children with finding appropriate professional help. Opheim served as executive director of PRIDE Canada and president of the Saskatoon chapter in addition to her involvement with the International Federation of Parents for Drug-Free Youth. In recognition of her efforts to bring discussions about drug abuse problems into the mainstream, Eloise Opheim was appointed to the Order of Canada in 1990.
