Bonneau, Solomon (1888-1976)

A lawyer and pillar of the town of Gravelbourg, Solomon Bonneau was born in Winnipeg on July 18, 1888. Educated at St. Boniface College and the University of Manitoba where he received his LLB, Bonneau came to Gravelbourg and was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1918. Besides practicing law, he purchased a printing plant in 1927 and published several weekly Newspapers in French and English throughout the 1930s. He was the town's mayor for seven years and performed numerous public, administrative, cultural, and athletic functions. Solomon Bonneau was awarded the Centennial Medal in 1967, and the Order of Canada shortly before his death on September 29, 1976.
